Description:

IPANOL HBC is a 100% solids, two component moisture insensitive epoxy system. IPANOL HBC is used to protect and provide an architectural finish on dry, damp or saturated surfaces.

Uses:

IPANOL HBC is used to create a smooth high gloss surface for concrete or masonry surfaces. Superior performance in protecting concrete or masonry in splash zones and in underwater applications.

Advantages:

  • Easy mixing ratio of 1 to 1 (A : B)

  • Insensitive to moisture before, during and after curing

  • Provides excellent adhesion to many common structural materials

  • Creates a hard, dense, ceramic tile like surface appearance.

Coverage:

Coverage varies with application technique and surface characteristics. Estimated yield is as follows:

IPANOL HBC Base Coat application at a thickness of 8 to 11 mils (203 to 279 μm) will cover approximately 150 to 200 square feet per gallon (3.7 to 4.9 m2 per liter).

IPANOL HBC Top Coat applied at a thickness of 6 to 9 mils (152 to 229 μm) will cover approximately 175 to 275 square feet per gallon ( 4.3 to 6.7 m2 per liter).

Surface Preparation:

All surfaces must be clean and free of dirt, dust, oil, grease, curing compound, other coating or any contaminant that would adversely affect the bond. Surfaces must be structurally sound. All loose particles or soft unsound sections must be removed. Surfaces may be dry or damp but must be free of standing water. It is recommended that the surface be sandblasted to remove laitance on top of the concrete. Sandblasting should completely clean the concrete and expose some aggregate. A minimum of 1/16th inch ( 1.6 mm) of the concrete surface should be removed.

Mixing Instructions:

Premix components in their individual containers. Using a clean mixing container, slowly place 1 part by volume of component B into 1 part by volume of component A. Mix thoroughly for 2 to 3 minutes with a mixing paddle on slow speed (250 rpm). Mix only the amount of product that can be placed during the working life of the product. Product working time will vary according to temperature.

Do not thin IPANOL HBC with solvent. This will prevent proper curing and the physical properties of the epoxy system will not be developed.

Application:

Apply to properly prepared surfaces only. Use an airless sprayer, brush or roller with 3/8 or 7/16 inch (9.5 or 11.1 mm) nap. Apply two coats of IPANOL HBC at a thickness of 6 to 9 mils (152 to 229 μm) using brush or roller, or at 4 to 6 mils (101 to 152 μm) with a sprayer. The coating should be applied to surfaces when the ambient temperature and surface temperature will be 50°F (10°C) and rising during the next 48 hours. The second coat may be applied after the first coat is tack free.

Curing:

IPANOL HBC is self-curing.

Clean-up:

Using appropriate safety methods and protective clothing, clean equipment and tools with Xylene or Toluene. Dispose of wash solvents according to all applicable waste disposal regulations.

Limitations:

IPANOL HBC creates a non-breathing epoxy coating when fully cured. The coating will perform as a vapor barrier and should not be installed on surfaces in environments where moisture may form under the coating and then freeze. Such conditions would cause blistering and loss of adhesion of the coating.

The substrate should also be free of moisture that may be passing through the materials under hydrostatic pressure. Moisture under these conditions can cause incomplete bonding of the epoxy coating to the substrate.

Temperature must be at least 50°F (10ºC) and rising during the 48 hour period starting at time of installation. For best use, epoxy materials should be stored at 65°F (18.3°C) for 24 hours prior to mixing. Lower temperatures will cause thickening and increased difficulty in mixing components. Condition materials to 65°F to 85°F (18.3°C to 29.4°C) before using.

CAUTION – FOR INDUSTRIAL USE ONLY:

IPANOL HBC Epoxy System components contain alkaline amines. These materials are strong sensitizers and MAY CAUSE SKIN SENSITIZATION or allergic response ranging from a mild wheezing to a severe asthmatic type attack. Avoid contact with skin or eyes. IN CASE OF CONTACT immediately wash skin with soap and water. Flush eyes with water and obtain medical attention. Wear protective clothing, goggles for eyes and barrier cream on all exposed skin.

See MSDS for additional precautionary information and health hazards.
