Uses:

  • On all above- and below-grade horizontal concrete surfaces

  • Filling potholes, severely spalled areas and other voids in concrete

  • For use on slabs, ramps, spillways or other concrete systems

  • Structural repairs on parking garages, bridges, tunnels, power plants

  • Rehabilitating or restoring existing concrete structures

Advantages:

  • Economical alternative to epoxy systems

  • Superior physical properties to conventional portland cement mortars

  • Excellent adhesion

  • Low water-cement ratio

  • Eliminates use of convenience water

  • Coefficient of expansion similar to concrete

  • Excellent resistance to de-icing chemicals

  • Excellent workability results in labor savings

  • Repaired areas will breathe

  • Tradesman use conventional practices

  • Will bond to damp surfaces

TECHNICAL DATA

Physical Properties:

Packaging:

Two-component kit.  Total weight — 58.4 lb. (26.5 kg).

Component A — Liquid polymer in 1 gallon (3.8 L) plastic jug; weight 8.4 lb. (3.8 kg).

Component B — Powder blend of portland cement, admixtures and finely graded aggregates in 50 lb. (22.7 kg) bag.

Yield:  Approximately 0.5 cubic foot (.01 cubic meter)
Shelf Life:

Component A — One year when unopened.  DO NOT FREEZE.

Component B — One year in unopened bag.  Requires dry storage

Mixing ratio:  Component A : Component B — 1 : 5.9 by weight
Application:  Material must be placed within 15 minutes of mixing.
Initial Set Time:  Initial set will occur within approximately two hours and thirty minutes after material has been placed.  Temperatures in excess of 68ºF (20ºC) will accelerate initial set.  Temperatures lower than 68ºF (20ºC) will retard initial set.

Installation:

Surface preparation:  Surface to be treated must be cleaned of any film, scale, loose material, oils, grease and other foreign material that will prohibit bond.  Surface preparation may be accomplished by accepted water-blast procedure, mechanical or chemical methods.  IPATOP DEEP PATCH should not be applied in thickness less than 1” (25 mm).  Surface must be damp prior to application of IPATOP DEEP PATCH.

Mixing:  May be done manually or mechanically ( wheelbarrow or mortar mixer).  Shake Component A thoroughly and add to mixing container.  Mix continuously as the Component B is added.  Continue mixing until uniform consistency is achieved (about 3 minutes).  Mix full kits.  Twenty pounds (9.1 kg) of washed pea gravel may be added to each kit.

Placing:  Surface should be damp with water when IPATOP DEEP PATCH slurry is placed.  Slurry should be worked thoroughly into substrate to insure proper bond immediately prior to placement of IPATOP DEEP PATCH.  Material should be placed and screeded immediately after mixing.  Expansion, control or construction joints must be placed directly over existing ones.  Cracks created by movement of the structure should be treated in a like manner, since they will reflect through the IPATOP DEEP PATCH repair mortar.  Wood, sponge, broom or steel trowel may be used, depending on desired finish.  In cases of unconsolidated or extremely porous surfaces, DURIPAL may be used as a surface conditioner.

Curing:

On areas in excess of 2 square feet (1,858 cm2), water mist or wet burlap will provide the best curing conditions — three day minimum.

Clean-up:

Cleanup must be done immediately due to the high bonding characteristics of IPATOP DEEP PATCH.  Tools and mixing equipment should be thoroughly cleaned with water.

Limitations:

Do not place unless surface and ambient temperature is at least 40ºF (4.4ºC) and rising.  Component A is destroyed if frozen.  Minimum application thickness is 1 inch (2.54 cm).  Existing cracks that move will reflect through the IPATOP DEEP PATCH.  On all applications, care must be exercised to insure that proper concrete practices are used in preparation, mixing, placing and curing.  Setting times of polymer modified cementitious materials are accelerated above 68ºF (20ºC).

CAUTION – FOR INDUSTRIAL USE ONLY:

Freshly mixed cement, mortar, grout, or concrete may cause minor skin irritation.  Avoid direct contact where possible and wash exposed skin areas promptly with water.  If any of the cementitious material gets into the eyes, rinse immediately and repeatedly with water.  If irritation persists, obtain medical assistance.
