Description:

OCTOCRETE is a single component, ready to use with water, high strength polymer modified cementitious patching mortar for horizontal, vertical and overhead repair of concrete and masonry.

Advantages:

  • Superior physical properties to conventional Portland cement mortars

  • Excellent adhesion *

  • Traffic bearing in 4 hours

  • Coefficient of expansion similar to concrete

  • Excellent resistance to de-icing chemicals

  • Excellent workability results in labor savings

  • Hangs up in thick layers to speed vertical and overhead repairs

  • Repaired areas will breathe

  • Tradesman use conventional practices

  • Excellent freeze-thaw resistance

  • Two set times available for convenience – 12-15 minute and 30 minute set

* For extra bond strength, add one gallon (3.8 L) of IPA Systems OCTOBLEN (Bonding Agent) per 50 pound (22.7 kg) bag in place of one gallon (3.8 L) of mixing water.

TECHNICAL DATA

Packaging:

50 lb. Bag (22.7 kg), 55 gallon drum (208.2 L)

Yield:  A 50 lb. (22.7 kg) bag of OCTOCRETE yields about 0.5 cubic feet (.01 cubic meter) of material
Shelf Life:

One year in unopened bag.  Requires dry storage

Color: Concrete Gray (White by special order)
Initial Set Time:  OCTOCRETE 12-15 Min. at 70ºF (21ºC); OCTOCRETE 30 – 30 Min. at 70ºF (21ºC)
Sculpture Time: For an additional 20 minutes after initial set, OCTOCRETE can be formed (shaved) by the edge of a trowel.  The finisher can shape (shave) the contour during this period of time.

Application:

All cracked or disintegrated concrete or other foreign material should be removed from the patching area, exposing a sound substrate.  Edges of surface to be patched should be cut vertical or undercut if possible.  Reinforcing steel shall be sandblasted, chiseled or wire-brushed clean.  Prior to application, the area should be dampened with water.  Remove excess water.

OCTOCRETE should be mixed at a ratio of 5 quarts (4.7 L) water per 50 lb. (22.7 kg) bag, either by gloved hand, trowel or in a mixer.  If a smooth surface is not necessary, 3/8 inch (1.0 cm) washed pea gravel may be added to a maximum of 1 part by weight to 2 parts OCTOCRETE.  Pack the repair material into the patching area, troweling the minimum amount necessary to achieve an approximate level finish, then wait for the initial set.  Do not mix more than can be placed in ten minutes.  Do not retemper.  For non-skid qualities, use a stiff brush to roughen the surface.

Curing:

Curing of OCTOCRETE should be accomplished using the latest ACI standards for concrete curing.

Thin patches, under 1 inch (2.5 cm), over spalls or honeycombs should be moist cured to obtain the desired strength and bond.

CAUTION – DO NOT USE SOLVENT BASED CURING COMPOUNDS.

Clean-up:

Cleanup must be done immediately due to the high bonding characteristics of OCTOCRETE.  Clean equipment with water.

IMPORTANT:  OCTOCRETE contains no calcium chloride, added gypsum, metallic particles, lime or high alumina cements.

Limitations:

Do not install OCTOCRETE unless substrate and air temperature is at least 40ºF (4.4ºC) and rising for the next 48 hours. Do not apply to a frozen surface. DO NOT USE SOLVENT BASED CURING COMPOUNDS. Care must be taken to insure proper concrete practices are used in preparation, mixing, placing and curing.

CAUTION – FOR INDUSTRIAL USE ONLY:

Freshly mixed cement, mortar, grout, or concrete may cause minor skin irritation. Avoid direct contact where possible and wash exposed skin areas promptly with water. If any of the cementitious material get into the eyes, rinse immediately and repeatedly with water. If irritation persists, obtain medical assistance.
