Surface Preparation:Surface to be repaired must be cleaned of any film, scale, loose material, oils, grease and any other foreign material that will prohibit bond. Surface preparation may be accomplished by accepted water blast, mechanical or chemical methods. Surface must be damp prior to application of OCTOSKIM. OCTOSKIM should never be applied in a thickness greater than ¼ inch (6.4 mm) in single applications. Thick coatings should be built-up in layers for best results. OCTOSKIM may also be applied in skim coat application and feather edged with a steel trowel. Feather edges should not be applied in areas exposed to vehicular traffic. Mixing:OCTOSKIM as it is packaged is a complete kit. Nothing other than the included acrylic additive should be added. DO NOT add convenience water. Remove the acrylic additive from the primary container, open and mix slowly with the powder until a smooth mortar consistency is obtained. The viscosity of the mixed OCTOSKIM can be controlled by the amount of additive put into the mix. If low slump is desired, use slightly less additive and vice versa where more fluid material is desired. Make sure the powder is completely wetted out and free of lumps. Best results are obtained by adding powder into liquid acrylic component while mixing. Application:OCTOSKIM is a very plastic material and can be applied with a large putty knife or metal trowel with equal ease. A two-coat application usually produces a smoother finish. Allow the first coat to become firm, but not dry, before applying the second coat. If finish surface is not as smooth as desired after the first toweling, return over the area immediately with a brush or trowel dipped in water and refloat the entire area to the desired finish. Outdoor repairs should be finished immediately since sun and wind cause rapid evaporation and hasten set time. Thin layers set faster than thicker layers. Once set has occurred, OCTOSKIM should not be sprinkled with water. Once applied, finish should not be disturbed. Do not mix more material than can be applied in a half hour. Curing:Material is self curing under most conditions. However, it must be protected from conditions that will cause rapid drying such as wind, high temperature, or low humidity. Clean-up:Cleanup must be done immediately due to high bonding characteristics of OCTOSKIM. Clean equipment with water. Packaging and Yield:OCTOSKIM is packaged in 10 lb. (4.5 kg) and 50 lb. (22.7 kg) pails, as well as 500 lb. (226.8 kg) drums. One pound of OCTOSKIM (.45 kg) will cover an area 1 square foot and 1/8 inch thick (.09 m2 x 3.2 mm thick). Limitations:Do not install OCTOSKIM unless substrate and air temperature is at least 40°F (4.4°) and rising for the next 48 hours. Do not apply to a frozen surface. Do not apply to asphalt or to painted surfaces. DO NOT USE SOLVENT BASED CURING COMPOUNDS. Do not use OCTOSKIM after it has set or has become too stiff for application. Shelf life is one year in unopened pail. CAUTION – FOR INDUSTRIAL USE ONLY:Contact with liquid may cause eye irritation. Prolonged skin contact may cause some irritation. Avoid inhalation of vapor or mist to prevent irritation of the nose, throat and lungs. Signs of overexposure are headache and nausea. Move affected person to fresh air. Freshly mixed cement, mortar, grout, or concrete may cause minor skin irritation. Avoid direct contact where possible and wash exposed skin areas promptly with water. If any of the cementitious material gets into the eyes, rinse immediately and repeatedly with water. If irritation persists, obtain medical assistance. See MSDS for additional safety information.
